The objective was to increase fruit production and exports, and also provide employment opportunities for the people.
Moreover, the government, in collaboration with the private sector, is establishing fruit processing and preservation units across the country. These units not only provide an additional income source for farmers but also help in preserving fruits and extending their shelf life, making it easier to export them. The government is also providing financial support to fruit farmers, such as low-interest loans and subsidies, to encourage them to invest in the industry.
Today, Bangladesh’s fruit industry has become a vital contributor to the country’s economy and employment. The industry provides income to thousands of farmers and workers, especially in rural areas.
