A. Preparation for Seed Sowing

Hybrid varieties:

• Sonali, Rupali, Dipali, Chameli, Bornali, BARI Tomato 04,  BARI Tomato 08

Land and soil:

• Tomato can be grown on a rather wide range of soils from sandy to clay.
• PH 6.0- 7.0
• To obtain good fertile soil with efficient drainage and good water holding capacity should be selected.

Time of Sowing:

• August–November is the best time of seed sowing for Rabi season.
• March-June for Summer season

Seed treatment:

• Seed treatment with Bio-derma powder works against seed-borne diseases.
• In 1 kg seed 30 gm Bio-derma powder will be needed.

Seed Rate:

• 100 gram seeds per Acre
• The land should be ploughed properly followed by harrowing for breaking clods and properly levelled.
• An ideal seedbed should be prepared by skill hand :
• Length : 3 miter
• Wide : 1 miter
• Height : 15 cm
• Bed to Bed distance : 50 cm
• Rotten cow dung 25-30 kg, TSP 100 gm MOP 100 gm should be mixed with soil properly and 250 gm Bio-derma solid would be needed to control “Damping off” of seedling on an ideal seedbed

B. Mainland Preparation
Seedling Raising:

• Tomato seedlings are raised in the nursery beds.
• 10 gm seeds are need in ideal seedbed
• Seed sown on seedbed in line –
• Line to line : 3 cm
• Seed to Seed : 2 cm
• Depth : 0.25 – .50 cm
• After 8-10 days seed germination, Seedling should be transplanted on other seedbed in line –
• Line to line :  4 cm
• Seedling to Seedling : 2.5 cm
• Shade Preparation-

A shade should be prepared according to seedbed for shelter of seedling from direct sunlight and rainfall.

• Sackcloth to be used for direct sunlight
• Polythene to be used only for heavy rainfall

Land preparation:

• Tomato should be planted in well pulverized field by ploughing first with soil turning plough and afterward with 4-5 ploughings.
• Ploughing should be followed by laddering.
• Farmyard manures/compost and basic dozes of fertilizers are incorporated into the soil during ploughing.
• 90 cm bed should be made a distance of 30 cm drain with the help of spade and watered properly. The seedling should be planted on two lines in a bed at the evening.
• Man height a polythene shade should be made on two beds for summer tomato.
• A bio fungicide marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited “Bio-darma solid” should be use through mixing with rotten cow dung in the land for soil sanctifying.
•  Before 7 days of transplanting of seedling Bio-darma solid would be mixed with soil fairly and 8-10 kg Bio-darma solid applied in 1 bigha (33 decimal) land

Seedling Transplanting:

• By making 90 cm wide bed, the row to row distance will be 60 cm and seedling to seedling distance will be 50 cm.
•  The Seedlings are transplanted when 25-30 days age.
• Seedling should be transplanted 15 cm inner from both side of a bed.
• At the time of seedling transplanting water should be applied by shower.
• “A’’ type or flat trellis should be made after seedling transplanting

C. Fertilizer Management

• Maintaining adequate quantities of nutrients in the soil is important to get good yield.
• 7 to 8 tones / acre of FYM or compost are applied at the time of field preparation or one month before seedling transplanting. FYM should be mixed in soil properly.
• Fertilizer should be applied kg per acre as follows.

Irrigation:

• Tomato needs very careful irrigation which should be sufficient in right time but water logging should be avoided at all times during the crop growth.
• Quality of fruits improves by optimum moisture supply during flowering and fruit setting.
• Heavy irrigation after a long dry spell may result in fruit cracking..

D. Pest & Diseases Management

Insect management:
Tomato fruit borer:
Control Measures:

• “Spodo Lure” pheromone marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited should be set in pheromone trap in the field before flowering.
• 1 pheromone for 5 decimal land. “Spodo Lure” pheromone is effective for three months.

Jassids, Aphids:
Control Measures:

• “Ecomec” marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited will be mixed with 1ml/liter water then spray it after 7 days of interval.

Disease management:
Damping off seedling
Control Measures:

• “Bio-darma powder” marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited can be used to the infected crops.
• 50 gm Bio-darma powder would be mixed with 16 liter water and sprayed at the bottom of the infected crops.

Fusarium Wilt:
Control:

• “Bio-darma powder” marketed by Ispahani Agro Limited would be mixed with water fairly 3-4 gram per liter is sprayed immediately the affected area and on the plant.

E. Harvesting:

• After 75-80 days of transplanting Ispahani hybrid tomato can be harvested.

Yield:

• 30-35 ton per acre.
